F.A.Q.s

Q. Why should I consider a private school?
A. GSB offers an excellent curriculum with small classes, dedicated teachers and advisors, broad parental involvement, a global learning perspective and a strong sense of community and respect. Honors and advanced placement courses are offered, and a broad range of athletic and other extracurricular offerings enhance the curriculum at all levels. At GSB, if qualified, students are more likely to take honors and advanced placement courses of their choice when in high school. In addition, students and their families receive personal, effective college counseling.

Q. What is Gill St. Bernard’s student teacher ratio?
A. GSB’s 9:1 student-to-teacher ratio results in an average class size of 14 to 16 students. Small class size promotes student participation and promotes learning. When teachers know students well, high academic expectations and success result.

Q. Will our family fit in? I don’t want to take my child out of the "real" world.
A. Families are often surprised to learn that Independent Schools can often be as or more diverse than local schools. GSB pulls from a 40 mile radius and admits students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, religious and geographic backgrounds. Need-based financial aid is available.

Q. What distinguishes Gill St. Bernard’s School?
A. As a college preparatory school, our teachers emphasize strong academics as one would expect, but it is the extraordinary sense of community—where all students are known, supported and encouraged to reach their fullest potential—which creates a climate wherein students excel.
GSB students are encouraged to participate broadly in athletic, community service and extracurricular programs where valuable life lessons are learned. They benefit from genuine relationships with a dedicated faculty, acquire a global perspective that is woven into the core curriculum and hone independent research skills through a leading-edge Research Program. Our unique Unit Study affords students valuable life experience and opportunities to explore areas of interest outside the standard curriculum.
When GSB students graduate, they are typically well-spoken, goal-oriented, engaging young people poised for success in higher education and beyond. They are able to think critically and analytically, are accustomed to acting with integrity and compassion, and expect to be active, responsible citizens of the world.
